Really am pleased with this insert! Just finished getting everything put in the trays. All organized now. takes seconds to pull it out to get to the table. Looks great too. I did have a bit of soot left over from the laser cutting on my kit as well nothing a good wipe down with a wet cloth didn’t remedy. Used gorilla glue spread thin taped in place or clamped while drying. Super easy to assemble. A little bit or effort to make sure it all fit properly and was flat nothing different from building anything out of wood.

Time to order some other kits for sure.

I’m a big fan of my Eclipse and Terra Mystica boxes from Daedalus. Unfortunately, I had already purchased an organizer from BT for Long Night. That said having owned other Daedalus boxes and having an alt organizer from BT I can weigh in a bit on this one. I really like that if I owned this box I wouldn’t have to fiddle with the standees on each of the respective holders (Bandits, Survivors, Experiments, and Zombies). The chambers are all large enough to not squirm trying to figure out how to orient them to fit or whether you need to “steal” from other compartments to fit in any that didn’t fit in their labeled compartment. So that is a major plus on DP’s side vs BT. So watching my wife stain for hours our BT box, having a pre-stained box is another major plus for DP. That said if you don’t like their themed stain its a minus. To each their own… so on to the minus. I hate organizers that force the lid to be anything but flush with the bottom box. Maybe there is absolutely nothing DP can do about it. Maybe its not even that different of an extra raise vs BT. That said I feel like the BT organizer made a trade between getting the lid as close to snug as possible with the bottom and having the extra room for the standees. A Pyrrhic choice if you ask me. Perhaps I should fault Plaid Hat for the problem instead of BT and/or DP. I can’t give either vendor a 5* because PH made it impossible to design a proper organizer to keep the standees on and be able to close the lid all the way. IH’s foam core approach also appears to me like a fail. Each does the best they can but ultimately it just can’t be done without making sacrifices. Basically wooden in England offers a combined crate for both DW and LN but it has a lot of extra space (I can’t imagine another expansion magically fitting into this extra space) which means its really not a custom crate for both games its a make it work crate. So if BT starts to offer a custom craftsman crate for both DW and LN that is actually optimized for both… then we have a winner. Until then I give the nod to DP for at least theme staining their organizer and reducing the insanity of putting the standees back in the box just right. There is NO WAY that I’m going to take plastic standees off and on their respective cardboard every game.

I’m actually not too crazy about this one the all the connecting pieces were slightly too small so as result they did not snap in together and all needed to be glued and taped together just lead to a much more time consuming process than I anticipated

Been trying to get Dead of Winter out more which is why I get inserts from Daedalus. This one does not disappoint. The paint and design really bring out the theme which adds to an already great game. I must have got an insert after they fixed the wood burning problem because my copy looks great with no residue. I do with they would have painted the edges like they did in my dead of winter insert. Couldn’t recommend it more, especially with games that have a ton of pieces, these inserts are great.

Incredibly useful and attractive on the table. The only thing that prevents this from being a perfect 5 is the paint job. While the paint adds loads of atmosphere to the game, it also coats everything from your hands to your cards and components in a sooty black residue. You CANNOT buy this insert unless you’re planning on sleeving your cards or unless you don’t mind everything looking like it came out of the Chicago fire. I would happily trade the atmosphere that the paint job brings for a crisp, clean organizer.

    • Patrick,

Thank you for the review. I’m sorry to hear the smoke residue has caused problems for you. I’ve since learned we had a laser settings issue which was burning the wood far more than usual and thus leaving the pieces covered in smoke. Other purchasers of the insert have used a damp cloth and it has eliminated all smoke and ask from the insert.
