Great product; really well-designed. I’m a model maker, so I found the assembly part fun. If you aren’t a model-maker, you might find it a bit tedious. The parts were precisely cut, and fit perfectly. I experienced maybe two parts that required a very light sanding. My sleeved (Fantasy Flight sleeves) cards fit perfectly, just as advertised. The finished product is attractive, functional and makes game set-up and take-down much quicker. Highly recommended.

Really glad I made this purchase. Not only does it look terrific (love the ‘tentacles-shaped cutouts!) but it accommodates ALL contents from the Base Game; Foresaken Lore and Strange Remnants – all cards sleeved (with FFG Sleeves). Admittedly, some of the desks are a little tight, stack (depth) wise, but no problems with the width within the various holders. Assembly was very easy, although – as stated in the instructions – a good craft knife and patience were required to ensure all pieces separated cleanly from surrounding material. I had no issues with pieces failing to fit together / requiring sanding or reworking. Everything fitted well, at first time of asking. Once completed the entire set up works and looks great, and certainly helps with set up / break down time.
All in all, absolutely no complaints and highly recommend to others. The only fly in the ointment were the shipping costs to Edinburgh, Scotland (but these are clearly advertised up front at time of order) and, as long as my wife doesn’t find out, still worth every penny!

Product looks great. It’s perfect for those who want to organize and spruce up their gaming experience.
This is my experience with the product, some things to keep in mind:
    • The product takes a while to receive. I ordered it March 25 and received it April 13, but I expected a while and I have no issue with it. just keep that in mind if you intend it as a gift.
    • I read another review that had the same issue I did and that is sometimes not every piece is cut all the way through. One side you can see the line but if you flip it over, it’s still solid. Some pieces were still connected to the wood sheet an inch in length. I was able to work with it and cut it out with an X-Acto blade and a Dremel tool.
    • Go slow when removing/separating; the wood can splinter. It happened just a tiny bit once, but you will be fine if you take your time.
    • It will take a day to put together because of drying glue. Glue is a necessity. I used an Elmer’s Wood glue and some masking tape to keep it held tight. Works perfectly. I love model building so this was fun for me. Again take your time and clean up excess. I recommend putting it together first before glue. Some pieces will only go a certain way you won’t notice until you try.
    • Be mindful of where you work with it. The finish/stain leaves a slight residue on your fingers when working with the wood. My fingertips had a slight brown stickiness to them.
    • I do like that one of the card containers had listed where which encounter cards go where, but the words were hard to see. I used an acrylic yellow paint and worked it in with my fingertips then used a wet cloth to wipe away the excess paint. Worked great.
A small complaint is I don’t know where other items are supposed to go. In the web-instruction guide there are images much like you see on the website, where you can guess what items go where. But I don’t know where the Other-World encounter cards are supposed to go (not listed with the other encounter cards) and part B and Part D (aside from the Investigator and Ancient Ones cards) both look to hold the small cards like Assets, perhaps one is overflow?
All in all, I enjoyed this item, it looks great. If I own anything else Dadalus makes inserts for, I will definitely return to purchase it. I only gave it 4 stars out of 5 because of the extra cutting I had to do. Not sure how others deal with it if they didn’t have the tools I did on-hand.

First Insert from Daedalus, and really not up to par. Below is my experience with the 2.0 holder.

    The Good:
-Well packaged, shipment was well secured in the package and appropriate package was used
-Good customer support, I had an issue with a couple pieces and they were easily and fairly quickly replaced.

    The Bad:
-While pulling out pieces, the cutting job very much felt unfinished, and not well planned out. Not every piece was fully cut through, especially things sitting right on the edge (within about 2mm of the edge). Masking tape was used to hold together oddly shaped pieces into a larger sheet- but the pieces in each individual sheet are often not the parts needed for a single component.
-The wood used seemed to be of either poor quality, or too thin. both the frame and at times some of the connecting tabs would chip and crack while being removed from the frames. The frames themselves had a tendency to shatter and splinter into a large number of sharp, pointed fragments.
-None of the pieces in the entire insert fit snugly into their corresponding parts during assembly. Many of the larger pieces bowed away in the middle and had to be held down with minor weight while the wood glue (which is absolutely mandatory) set. I then gave them over a week to set, and while trying to fill the box with the game pieces discovered that they are still bowed and disconnected. There’s unfortunately no spare room in the game box when putting all the pieces in, so small half-thickness bends in the side or bottom of a piece basically mean you’re not fitting the insert into the box at all.
-The instruction manual is 31 pages long, and doesn’t actually tell you the recommended uses for each slot in the insert. 31 pages is extremely excessive for an instruction manual that doesn’t actually lay out in detail the exact best way to put things together, where game components should go, what random pieces like the T in the character sheet component is for. The only hint as to what to do once the thing is together is to closely look at the images and hope you’re putting the right components in the recommended spots. Further- the instruction manual isn’t even included- a sheet saying to go to the website for instructions was included in the package, and even then took some hunting to find.
-The etched writing is entirely illegible. The etching is applied prior to the stain, and then layered with some sort of yellow/orange that completely blends in with the finish, making the letters effectively camouflaged on the surface- this also includes the logo on the top of the small components box.

    The Meh:
-The Finish- as stated with the writing, the finish does more harm than good. It looks pretty, but may be a contributing factor to the amount of difficulty I was having trying to glue some of the parts together, I couldn’t say for certain.
-The Detail work – It’s nice, but I’d much prefer to have more care put into the rest of the design, than have some tentacles on the bottom of a piece no one will see.
-The component feet – some (most?) of the components have side walls that go below the “floorboard” of the component- it’s nice, but unnecessary, and takes out that little bit of wiggle-room in the box that could’ve been used.
-The slanted components – a couple of the smaller trays are slanted- I have no idea why, but it makes them much harder to stack in the box, and doesn’t really have a purpose that I can tell.

    Overall:
Overall, this insert feels like it tries to be fancy for fancy sake, and because of that has neglected some of the key points that make self-assemble inserts great and easy, like snug-fitting, accurate pieces, accessible components, and safety for my game pieces.

Really great product. High quality stuff ! Really easy to assemble with just some super glue. Never have to use a hammer or tape, really precise cuts. The final assembled insert is just gorgeous.

Great product other than tight fit with sleeves. any word or upgrade for strange remnants?

This is a fantastic insert. It was a bit of a pain to assemble, but was quite worth it. The base game and all expansions (including Strange Remnants with an little creative rearranging) fits perfectly. I do wish there was a little more guidance on how to appropriately use the insert for gameplay as the only trays that I’ve found work for actually playing are the health/sanity token holder, ticket holder, and small token holder. I pieced most of it together with the pictures, but some actual advice on the setup would have been good to have. In any case this thing is definitely worth the money.

Kind of annoyed it was advertised to hold the game and expansions sleeved, and then after waiting a month to get it, it turns out it won’t. Now there is a new design that does, but there is no upgrade option from the early buyers.

okay great insert…looks awesome and i dont sleeve so everything fits well. the only cons i have is im a stickler for keeping my mythos cards seperated by color in storage so i wish there had been a option to do this (as is i added foam core dividers to remedy this) and there were no slots for the adventure cards and research cards from mountains of madness…just nitpicking but still would like the option

Bought the v2 that holds also Mountains of Madness and for me it is 3/5 and 5/5 thing. Full points for the look and fitting everything into one box. It is really cool and beautiful thing. But on the other side, esp. with sleeves, the trays are not really fit for playing. The tray for encounter cards is so snug, that it is abit impractical for playing. I guess it could work if you remove unused Ancient Ones cards from the tray and just make the slots bigger by removing dividers, but it just adds to setup time and cleanup time. Item tray has similiar issues. Trays for tickets, skill & clue counters and health & sanity tokens work just fine for playing. Mythos/Gate tray works well too after making the Mythos deck and switching compartments with Gate cards. Also no dedicated tray for conditions is a small bummer for actual gaming. All this is abit shame since the stuff looks really good. Also there is no way to hold any future expansions if it wasn’t obvious from the pictures.
So, in summary it is brilliant for storing everything released so far and looks really beautiful, but falls abit short for gaming purposes. For future, hopefully we get expansion trays for holding new stuff as well as maybe getting the original tray for encounter cards to buy separately to use it for holding encounters and looking stunning without lugging around unused Ancient Ones cards. Also smaller version for all kinds of small cards would be really nice.

Let me start by saying that I ordered the original version of this piece – the one that doesn’t hold Mountains of Madness – and that is the only reason I’m only giving the product four stars instead of five. If they had an upgrade for the original, it would be an unreserved five star review…

That aside, the insert is fantastic. It looks great and seriously cuts down on setup and breakdown times… which means more time to play the game…

    Thanks for another fantastic product!

This insert works really really well. Having all the tokens and cards organised and in containers ready when the board hits the table!
The tentacles add the right atmosphere and look great too.

This insert is top quality. All of the pieces fit together nicely. I used Titebond II Premium Wood Glue to hold everything together. The stained finish gives this incredible table presence and becomes a nice part of the game on the table. Keeps everything neatly organized.
